FAMOUS WARFARE HISTORY
Battle of Granicus
Fought in 334 BC, Northwestern Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). lexander ultimately fought many of his battles on a river bank, so he could reduce the number of Persians. Alexander's second-in-command, Parmenion suggested crossing the river upstream and attacking at dawn the next day, but Alexander attacked immediately. This tactic caught the Persians off guard. The battle started with a cavalry and light infantry attack from the Macedonian left, so the Persians heavily reinforced that side. However, by this point, Alexander led the horse companions in their classic wedge-shaped charge, and smashed into the center of the Persian line. In this war, Alexander’s favorite horse, Bucephalus was killed either because the war was too dangerous or the horse tried to attack the enemy.

Battle of Issus
Fought in 333 BC, his second battle with Persians and the first direct engagement with king Darius III. This was one of Alex’s biggest major victory for him, defeating the army and causing king Darius to flee. He did this to pursue his dead father, and that is the conquest of the Persian Empire. There are many estimates as to the numbers in the Persian army, but it is accepted that it was a maximum of 100,000 men strong, and the Macedonian has around 40,000 men. Alexander was injured during this war, Alex suffered from a wound which he had received in the thigh from a sword, visited the wounded, and having collected the bodies of the slain, he gave them a splendid burial with all his forces most brilliantly marshalled

The Siege of Tyre
Taken by alexander the great in 332 BC during his campaigns against Persians, in Phoenicia. As Alexander could not attack the city from the sea, he built a kilometer-long causeway stretching out to the island on a natural land bridge no more than two meters deep. through conventional means because it was on an island and had walls right up to the sea. Alexander responded to this problem by first blockading and besieging Tyre for seven months, and then by building a causeway that allowed him to breach the fortifications. While Alexander was still occupied by the siege of Tyre, ambassadors came to him from Darius, announcing that he would give him I0,000 talents in exchange for his mother, wife, and children; that all the territory west of the river Euphrates, as far as the Grecian Sea, should be Alexander's; and proposing that he should marry the daughter of Darius, and become his friend and ally he said that he was neither in want of money from Darius, nor would he receive a part of his territory instead of the whole; for that all his money and territory were his; and that if he wished to marry the daughter of Darius, he would marry her.

Battle of Gaugamela
Took place in 331 BC between Alexander the great and king Darius III. Another name for this battle is the “Battle Of Arbela”. This war will later on be a huge victory to Alexander and it will lead to the fall of Persian Empire. When Alexander’s generals had a meeting about the war, Parmenion, suggested that to counter the overwhelming number of Persians, a surprise night attack should be launched. Alexander disagrees and said he wont “steal his victory”. Darius, fearing a night attack, kept his army awake and on alert for the whole night, while Alexander's was allowed to sleep. The next morning, Alexander over-slept. When his concerned generals woke him, he stated matter-of-factly that the battle had already been won.
