PHILOSOPHER
Socrates (469-399 B.C): He created “Socratic Irony” and the “Socratic Method” (also known as elenchus). Socrates is best known as inventing the method: pedagogy (the method and practice of teaching). Socrates has greatly influence Western perspective of philosophy and also his two students: Plato, and Aristotle. Though Socrates have already impact the world of ethics, his “field of epistemology and logic is also noteworthy”.
Plato (428-348 B.C): Plato was a student of Socrates and a teacher of Aristotle. He focused his writings toward “explored justice, beauty and equality, and… discussions in aesthetics, political philosophy, theology, cosmology, epistemology and the philosophy of language. By doing so, he also accomplish to impact the world on “philosophy and the nature of humans” where he spread new ideas about “mathematics, science, nature, morals and political theory.” Although Plato beliefs in several topics, his most supportive belief is on mathematics and how it could lead to understanding the entire universe.
Aristotle (348-322 B.C): Aristotle was a former student of Plato’s Academy. He was born on the city Chalcidice, Greece and died at Euboea, Greece. He was a tutor of Alexander the Great in 338. He didn’t only work as a tutor; he also created his own academy: Lyceum, “where he spent his life studying, teaching and writing.” Aristotle is a professional in philosophy because of his deep understanding in logic and also “good living.” Aristotle isn’t only a professional in philosophy, he studied science too. He is interested in geology where he classified animals that have red blood and other blood color, marine biology where he dissect marine animals and recorded in his book and meteorology where he learns all about water, air and anything that has connection with earth.
SCIENCE
Astronomy: (Thales [624-546 B.C]): Thales belief in rational explanation that made his explanation logical. Although he’s a logical person, he believes that earthquakes happen because “our home planet floats on water.” When earth “is agitated by waves” there will be earthquake. Thales relate to modern scientist because he believes that “the world started from water.”
Engineer: (Archimedes [287-212 B.C]): Archimedes believes that: “body immersed in a fluid is buoyed up by a force equal to the weight of the displaced fluid.”The principle is also applied to both floating object and submerge object.
Doctors (Hippocrates [450-380 B.C]): Hippocrates created “The Corpus Hippodraticum” a book that consists of biomedical methodology and ethics. He also created the oath which still valid until today.
